How did he Do it ?

on Monday, December 09, 2013

" HOW DID HE DO IT ? " said Nelson Mandela about Srila Prabhupada

Hare Krishna. I thought you might like to know a little bit of the untold side of Nelson Mandela.

He came several times to ISKCON's Ratha Yatra in
South Africa while he was president of the nation. The first time Bhakti Tirtha Swami met him, in the course of their conversation, Maharaja quoted a Gita verse. Half-way thru the verse, Mandela quoted the rest of it. BT Swami
was surprised.

He asked "You know the Gita?" Mandela said "Try me." Every
Gita verse Bhakti Tirtha Maharaja knew, Nelson knew as well
. Naturally, BT Swami asked "How is this?" Nelson Mandela explained that he was imprisoned on Robbins Island along with some of his fellow leaders of their political party, the ANC. One of them was an Indian-bodied lawyer. The South African government tried to break them by giving them mindless labor and routine.

Realizing that they needed to keep their minds actively engaged, the Indian lawyer taught Nelson Mandela Gita verses which they quoted and discussed back and forth to transcend their daily drudgery.

Nelson Mandela told BhaktiTirtha Maharaja that learning the Gita helped keep him sane and did much to infuse his view of the world and his strategies for bringing independence and a better future for the South African people.

Bhakti Chaitanya Maharaja, the GBC for South Africa adds: "When Mr. Mandela visited our temple the first time (he came several times thereafter as well) he, with dignity and humility bowed before Srila Prabhupada, and then asked (me) "How did he do it?", meaning how did Srila Prabhupada spread Krishna consciousness all over the world. We then had a brief discussion about how Srila Prabhupada gave Krishna consciousness to all nationalities and types of people, without discrimination, and Mr Mandela was deeply struck by this, and was very appreciative of Srila Prabhupada."

Finally a Tonoscope picture of OM !

Sri Yantra created in an electronic sound field (Tonoscope) during an experiment by Dr. Jenny. The same experience is sensed during ritual worship when the Sri Chakra pattern 'dematerializes', appearing to dissolve into a blissful all encompassing web of spoken mantras.

The Conquest of Naraka

Let us all firstly understand, the real essence of Diwali Celebration . Lord Narayana killed the demon Naraka. But really Naraka is the ego that parades itself by taking the hellish body to be ‘I’. Hence, those who enquire into the source of this Naraka and destroy him are indeed Narayana, the killer of Naraka.

'Naraka' is both the term for the hell realm and the name of the asura who was slain by Krishna, the avatar of Lord Narayana. The festival of Deepavali celebrates the victory of Narayana over Naraka'. One of the key events of this celebration is a ritual bath that is taken at an auspicious time.

Taken on Naraka Chaturdasi, the auspicious bath that symbolizes the conquest of Naraka is actually bathing in the waters of true knowledge after killing Naraka, the ego, by tracking him down to his place of residence.

Sri Ramana Maharishi: Naraka is he who rules the world of Hell by taking the hellish body to be 'I'. Hence, he who slays Naraka with the discus of jnana by enquiring from where does this Naraka arise?' is Lord Narayana Himself. That day indeed is the auspicious Naraka Chaturdasi day.

Know clearly that Naraka is the one who is condemned to ruin through taking as ‘I’ the foul mass of flesh, the hell that is the body, whilst Deepavali is the eternal radiance of the Supreme Self that shines after Naraka, the reflection, has been destroyed following the enquiry into his nature.

Sri Ramana Maharishi: Clearly know that the auspicious day of Deepavali denotes shining as the Self by seeking and
destroying the great sinner Naraka, who ruined himself by regarding as ‘I' the prison of the body, the source of misery that truly is Hell.

Let this Diwali remove all our ego and let us surrender to almighty for peace with in :)

Hanuman Chalisa

on Tuesday, October 22, 2013

In Hanuman Chalisa, it is said,

"Yug sahastra yojan per Bhanu ! Leelyo taahi Madhu Phal Janu !! "

1 Yug = 12000 years
1 Sahastra = 1000
1 Yojan = 8 Miles
Yug x Sahastra x Yojan = par Bhanu
12000 x 1000 x 8 miles
1 mile = 96000000 miles = 96000000 x 1.6kms =
153600000 kms to Sun

NASA has said that, it is the exact distance between Earth and Sun (Bhanu). Which proves Hanuman ji did jump to Planet Sun, thinking it as a sweet fruit (Madhu Pal).

It is really interesting how accurate and meaningful Our ancient scriptures are.
Unfortunately barely it is recognized, interpreted accurately Or realized by any in today's time.

17th-century astronomers Giovanni Cassini and Jean Richer pegged the distance from the Earth to the sun as 40 million kilometers. just nine million kilometers off from the now-official figure. They calculated the astronomical unit by using observations of Mars from two different spots on Earth, then used the difference between those two observations to calculate our distance from Mars, which they then used to determine our distance from the sun.

But our ancient Indian Astronomers have calculated this distance accurately long before them. The diameter of the sun multiplied by 108 gives this distance. The number 108 gets its importance in Hinduism from this calculation.

Shehla Masood

on Friday, October 11, 2013

Shehla Masood was an Indian environmentalist, wildlife and RTI activist. She was shot dead around 11:19 AM on August 16, 2011 by three persons who were hired by a local woman interior designer in front of her house in Bhopal while she was sitting in her car and was about to leave.Masood was constantly living under threat, as revealed by her in an interview before she was shot dead. Shehla Masood was aged 38 years old, unmarried, born into a Muslim family.

Masood was an activist working primarily on wildlife conservation, and also supported other causes like good governance, RTI Act, Police reforms, environment, women's rights & issues and transparency. She sat on a fast in support of Anna Hazare's India Against Corruption campaign. She was actively involved in raising issues related to the deaths of tigers in the various sanctuaries of Madhya Pradesh. Shehla herself was working for the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Trust, organizing events for them from Srinagar to Kolkata to Delhi. She was about to leave for Boat Club in Bhopal to join the anti-government protest to bring the Jan Lokpal Bill when she was killed. She co-founded RTI Anonymous, a service for whistle blowers for filing anonymous Right to Information (RTI) Applications with Indian Government departments without getting victimized, with her friends just a few days before her death. Shehla Masood was posthumously awarded the award for her relentless effort under the category, 'Crusade Against Corruption'.

RTI activists are harassed and sometimes killed by corrupt officials protecting their own interests. In 2010 alone at least ten Right to Information activists were killed. Several of them, like Masood, were also environmental activists against illegal mining and the poaching of tigers. Indian police claim “vested interests” connected to these businesses are responsible for Masood’s murder.

Where are we heading? God save my country !!

How to see GOD?

on Saturday, October 05, 2013

"Can you weep for Him with intense longing of heart?
Men shed a jugful of tears for the sake of their children, for their wives, or for money. But who weeps for God? So long as the child remains engrossed with its toys, the mother looks after her cooking and other household duties.
But when the child no longer relishes the toys, it throws them aside and yells for its mother. Then the mother takes the rice-pot down from the hearth, runs in haste, and takes the child in her arms."

Vivekananda's Letter to his disciples

on Thursday, October 03, 2013

"The hope lies in you—in the meek, the lowly, but the faithful. Have faith in the Lord. Feel for the miserable and look up for help—it shall come. I have traveled twelve years with this load in my heart and this idea in my head. I have gone from door to door of the so-called rich and great. With a bleeding heart I have crossed half the world to this strange land, seeking for help. The Lord is great. I know He will help me. I may perish of cold or hunger in this land, but I bequeath to you, young men, this struggle for the poor, the ignorant, the oppressed."

Letter, August 1893. The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, Part-5. Page-16.

How to realize the SELF ?

on Tuesday, October 01, 2013

QuestionerHow to realize the SELF ?

Sri Bhagavan : Everyone has experience of the SELF  every moment of his life.

Questioner: But, the SELF is not realized as one would like.

Sri Bhagavan : Yes. The present experience is viparita (different from real). What is not is confounded with what is.

Questioner: How to find the Atman (SELF) ?

Sri Bhagavan : There is no investigation into the Atman. The investigation can only be into the non-self. Elimination of the non-self is alone possible. The SELF being always
self evident, will shine forth of itself.

The SELF is called by different names -Atman, God, Kundalini, Mantra, etc. Hold any one of them and the SELF becomes manifest. God is no other than the SELF  Kundalini is now showing forth as the mind. When the mind is traced to its source it is Kundalini. Mantra japa leads to elimination of other thoughts and to concentration on the mantra. The mantra finally merges into the SELF and shines forth as the SELF.

Questioner: How long is a Guru necessary for Self-Realization ?

Sri Bhagavan : Guru is necessary so long as there is the laghu (Pun on Guru = heavy ; laghu = light ).

Laghu is due to the self-imposed but wrong limitation of the SELF  God, on being worshiped  bestows steadiness in devotion, which leads to surrender. On the devotee surrendering, God shows His mercy by manifesting as the Guru The Guru, otherwise God, guides the devotee, saying that God is in you and He is the SELF.  This leads to introversion of the mind and finally to Realization.

Effort is necessary up to the state of Realization  Even then the SELF should spontaneously become evident. Otherwise, happiness will not be complete. Up to that state of spontaneity, there must be effort in some form or another.

Questioner: Our work-a-day life is not compatible with such efforts.

Sri Bhagavan : Why do you think that you are active ? Take the gross example of
your arrival here. You left home in a cart, took train, alighted at the Railway Station here, got into a cart there and found yourself in this Ashram. When asked, you say that you traveled here all the way from your town. Is it true ? It is not a fact. You remained as you were and there were movements of conveyances, all along the way. Just as those movements are confounded with your own, so also the other activities. They are not your own. They are God's activities.

Questioner: Such idea will lead to blankness of mind and the work will not progress well.

Sri Bhagavan : Go up to that blankness and tell me afterwards.

Questioner: They say that a visit to Sages helps Self-Realization ?

Sri Bhagavan : Yes. So it does.

Questioner: Will not my present visit to you bring it about ?

Sri Bhagavan : (After a short pause)

What is to be brought about ? To whom ?
Consider ; investigate.
To whom is this doubt ? If the source is traced
the doubt will disappear.

Super Brain Yoga

on Tuesday, September 24, 2013

As you can understand, this exercise, called Super Brain Yoga by the American World, is nothing but the simple Thoppukaranam, the reverential practice done by Hindus in front of Lord Ganesha's temple.

As per the medical research and subsequent report, doing these special kind of sit ups while holding the opposite earlobes help stimulate brain power and remember things better.

Hindus have been doing this Super Brain Yoga for ages in front of temples devoted to Lord Ganesha. In fact, I have observed that while crossing a Ganesha temple on road, most people stop, take off their footwear, perform Thoppukaranam, and then resume their journey.

Lord Ganesha is associated with Knowledge/Memory, a point which is now proved by this research.

Advantages of Super brain yoga,
  • Helps kids who suffer with Autism disorder
  • Helps people who suffer from Alzheimer's disease
  • Increases intelligence for all age groups
  • Increases right and left brain co-operation

But the saddening state is that some people here in India without knowing all these values they just  deny that, all our hindu practices doesn't have any meaning.

If all our Hindu practices are analysed by researchers, the whole world will get benefited

Even though these practices have come from India, because of our ignorance of our own tradition, the western world has copyrighted this Thoppukaranam as Super Brain Yoga.

When will we wake UP???

I am happy that at least the western world believes in our values :) when our government just ignores it :(

Indian Cricket > Indian Army

on Friday, June 28, 2013

Indian Government is ready to give 1 crore for each player in the Indian cricket team. The painful fact is the one crore is not given for the army men who died in the Uttarakhand rescue operations 2013. Too much importance to cricket makes the government to forget its real HEROES !!!. Are their lives so cheap ? Pity :( :(

Unsung Heroes!!

Pilot who died in Uttarakhand put pilgrims ahead of himself

K Praveen, 27, a flight lieutenant from Madurai knew it was a daunting task. But, all he wanted was to rescue the people who were facing an even worse challenge in their lives. What kept the young Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot going against all odds at Uttarakhand was his sense of duty and the gratifying smile of the rescued pilgrims.

"There are no roads, no proper food and punishing weather here. But, we are happy when people thank us after we rescue them. We want to rescue all the people stranded here," he had told his mother on Tuesday morning. But, barely four hours later, the helicopter he was flying crashed, snuffing out Praveen's life and 19 others.

Flying was a passion for Praveen, a topper of his batch in BE Mechatronics department in Thiagarajar College of Engineering. Soon after he completed his engineering, Praveen worked for two months at an IT company, but soon wrote the combined defence examination. "He turned out to be meritorious in the exam and was offered to join any of the defence forces. He chose air force," said his uncle V Krishnan, an ex-army man.

Death of a person is always an unbearable loss to his or her family members, but the demise of Praveen has dealt a devastating blow for his mother Manjula, 52, who has toiled as a single mother for 27 years to raise her son after she legally separated from her husband.

"She has long stopped crying, but is refusing to speak to anyone," said Krishnan. An office superintendent in the Southern Railway, Manjula had all her hope of future pinned on Praveen. Manjula was keen on getting her son married soon and was seeking alliances for him. "No one could console her. Everything in her life revolved around Praveen," says another relative. Manjula's aged parents N Chinnasamy, 85 and Seetha, 80, are also devastated. "We don't know whom to console. They have not taken food ever since they got the news of Praveen's death on Tuesday night," said the relative.

"He had participated in several rescue missions in the last five years of his service. But he would not share the difficulties at all. Even this time, he never dwelt much on the difficulties the armed forces were facing. He went to Uttarakhand four days back, but whenever he calls us he would narrate only the plight of the people there," Vipin, his cousin said.

"I am awaiting engineering counselling on July 14. He promised to come home to guide me chose the right course and college. But he never said that he would come in this state," Vipin said breaking into tears.

Honest auto driver

on Monday, June 03, 2013

He could have been a billionaire overnight, but autorickshaw driver Raju Bharwad chose honesty over a cheque of Rs 1.9 crore sent in his name by Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation.

Bharwad was surprised to receive the cheque, which also had the name of his mother as the corecipient.

The accompanying letter said the money was being given to them in lieu of 10 bigha land that they owned at Sanand near the Tata Nano plant.

At a time when complaints of violence, land grabbing and forgery are on the rise in Sanand after the relocation of Tata Nano plant from West Bengal, Bharwad, who stays in Ahmedabad, rushed to the authorities to return the cheque.

"We did have 10 bigha land in that area but my father sold that plot for Rs 9 lakh 25 years ago.Today, several families are staying there," he said, adding that the ownership of the land was not transferred officially and had remained with Raju and his mother. "If I had accepted the money, the authorities would have bulldozed the houses on that plot," Raju said. He is now trying to ensure that the ownership of the land is transferred to the right owners.

"I earn about Rs 6,000 a month by driving an autorickshaw and have four bigha land," Raju said, adding that the money was sufficient. Raju's honesty has surprised government officials, too, who said they have seen many disputes over land ownership but someone returning a cheque of such a big amount is unheard of.

Surprisingly there is no media coverage for this, media has time to cover IPL but not this. Pity :(

Soul Existence

Victorian doctor who weighed the human soul

Dr Duncan MacDougall tried to prove the existence of the human soul by measuring the weight of a person at the moment of death. He had 6 patients, all of which experienced weight loss of an average 21 grams.
This happened exactly in the year  1901 in Massachusetts where surgeon Dr. Duncan MacDougall attempted to prove the existence of the soul by weighing a person before, and right after, death. He hacked an industrial beam scale so that it could be attached to a hospital bed. Then, he began to seek out a subject in the terminally ill patients at the hospital. First up was a man dying of tuberculosis.

According to MacDougall, “The instant life ceased, the opposite scale pan fell with a suddenness that was astonishing – as if something had been lifted from the body.” Apparently, 21 grams was missing from his body. MacDougall reproduced the experiment several more times. The physician's work has become a classic tale that, of course, is still widely cited by philosophers, skeptics, and "believers." And yes, it's MacDougall's experiments that inspired the film 21 Grams too. Fourteen Times weighs the truths, half-truths, and unknowns of "the strange deathbed experiment of Dr. MacDougall.

Atman

on Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Atman dwells in the heart of every living being, yet It is not perceived by ordinary mortals because of Its subtlety.

It cannot be perceived by the senses, a finer
spiritual sight is required.

The heart must be pure and freed from every unworthy selfish desire, the thought must be in-drawn from all external objects. Mind and body must be under control.

When the whole being thus becomes calm and serene, then it is possible to perceive that effulgent Atman.

It is subtler than the subtle, because It is the invisible essence of every thing and It is greater than the great because It is the boundless, sustaining power of the whole universe, that upon which all existence rests.

-Katha Upanishad

Willingness to learn

on Monday, May 13, 2013

Learn to give. There is immense joy in giving. Very few can understand this. Learn to resign to the will of God. There is indescribable peace in self-surrender. Very few can realize this. Learn to discriminate. There is ineffable bliss in discriminating between the real and the unreal. Very few can recognize this. Learn to be dispassionate. There is eternal satisfaction in cultivating Vairagya. Very few can know this. -Swami Sivananda.

Happiness!!

on Friday, April 12, 2013

Be Happy Zone

Happiness Guaranteed!

You are about to read the first happiness guarantee ever made. If you follow what I am about to reveal to you, I guarantee your happiness or you can have your unhappiness back.

This is the most direct method you will learn. It is simple, I promise you!
It is simple, but it may not be easy. But since it is simple you will always remember it and you will be able to practice it until it becomes a positive habit and it
comes naturally to you.

The fact is happiness is a decision. First and foremost
you must make the decision that being happy is the most important thing for you to be and to do. Now that you understand that your happiness really counts, you
are ready for the next step.

I want you to NOT CHOOSE TO BE UNHAPPY in every moment. Yes, that is the secret, once you understand that being happy is important to you and necessary to your
well being. You are now ready to take charge of your emotional and rational capacity as a fully functioning human being.

When you have a situation that you encounter that is not going the way you would like it to go, learn to make a choice about what you are going to choose to do.
But NOT CHOOSE TO BE UNHAPPY. Don't make that choice. Every time you become unhappy you are choosing it. How does it feel to have a problem and also have to deal with your unhappiness on top of all the other problems you have? It doesn't feel good, does it? No, it doesn't! It is time for you to stop terrorizing yourself.

It is time for you to become your own best friend.

The reason that not choosing unhappiness works so well is that as soon as a bad situation presents itself, you react to it and make unhappiness your choice. What
you could be doing is choosing the best possible solution that requires a balanced state of mind. If you did not choose unhappiness you could maintain a state of well being that supports your most creative problem solving strategies.

When you are not happy, you are letting your thinking make the worst possible choice you can possibly fabricate. This may sound very extraordinary to you but by not choosing unhappiness you are controlling your thinking. By thinking about what to do in an unfavorable situation you will react with consistent negativity.

It has become extremely important to control our thinking. I am not just talking about negative or positive thinking, but all of our thinking. The problem with our thinking is that we have absolutely no control of it and our thinking has gained absolute control of us. Our thinking is making us unhappy. When we are unhappy,it is because we are choosing it.

The only way you are ever going to be happy is by not choosing unhappiness. Every time you are unhappy you have engaged your thinking to take control of your emotions and your state of being. Once you connect to unhappiness you have lost your inner peace. You are operating on your negative thinking, moods and feelings. In fact when you are unhappy you are giving your power away. Being unhappy is just another term for being powerless and feeling helpless.

Why would you go though life allowing yourself to feel that way?
Why would you allow yourself to experience the worst
possible outcome?

I will tell you why you do it. You are not happy because you do not know how to not choose unhappiness. It has become a reaction, a conditioned reflex. You are not happy because being happy requires a great deal of consciousness and awareness.

You choose unhappiness because you are not aware you are doing it. Everyone else does it so why not go along with the crowd, right? Well, it is not right. It is time for you to take your power back by not choosing unhappiness every time things don't go the way you want them to go.

Wake up and take your power back. Become aware of how you choose unhappiness in unpleasant situations. By being more aware of how you lose your power you can gain control of your life.

As Henry David Thoreau said, "Above all, we cannot afford
to not live in the present."

Become more aware of how you react when you automatically and unconditionally choose unhappiness. I want you to make not choosing unhappiness a contract with yourself.

You only have to think about the happiness decision. Once you have done that, you don't need to use your thinking because it will lead you to choose unhappiness.
Choose your unhappiness wisely, because it will cause much devastation in your life.

Unhappiness is a choice, don't make it! It will be one you will make less often or at the very least you will see why choosing it will keep you unhappy!
My friend, you deserve to be happy! As John Milton wisely stated, "The mind is its own place, and in itself, can make heaven of Hell, and a hell of Heaven."
